Selection methodology: ISO/TR 19201:2013. Limit values: ISO 10816-2/-3/-4/-6/-7, ISO 20816-8, ISO 14694, API 610/612/613/616/617/619, VDI 3836 (screw compressors), CTI STD-163 (water cooling towers), and the Energy Institute Guidelines for the avoidance of vibration induced fatigue failure in process pipework (TM-07). ISO criteria are broadband bearing-housing velocity (mm/s r.m.s.); API criteria are shaft displacement (µm pk-pk) from proximity probes, except API 610 which also sets a housing velocity limit.
This tool is a guide, not a substitute for the standards. Values are widely-published guide figures and should be verified against the current edition of the relevant standard and the machine's purchase specification before use. Alarm = investigate; danger/trip = stop. Trend over time matters more than any single reading.
